How Can Diarrhea be Prevented For Calves?

Ventilation in the sections should be done well, that is, it should be done in a way that will not directly come on the animals. It should be done with short intervals in winter and frequently in summer.

The areas where calves live should be cleaned frequently, they should not be kept in wet and humid areas and one should ensure that the beddings are dry.

New-born calves must be given colostrum, one should pay attention to the temperature of the colostrum and those calves that do not drink it must be fed using a bottle. In this way, diarrhea is most probably prevented because immunity is provided by the mother’s milk.

One should pay attention to feeding them the milk they must be fed at the same time every day. Calves should be fed sufficiently and in a balanced manner. They must not be overfed or ireregularly fed.

They should be supported with vitamins A, D and E in addition to the fodder they are given after they are born.

The buckets and bottles you use when feeding calves must be absolutely clean and water must not be kept in them.

Sections should not be overcrowded, there should be at least 2 m2 of speace per calf.

If milk-substituting fodder is being used, then it should be of high quality and it should have a high ratio of fat and its rate of digestion should be high.
