How Should Nutrition Be in the Dry Period?

One should avoid nutrition that is concentrated on energy in the dry period.

There are disadvantages to feeding barley, wheat, bran, fattening feed and especially dry fodder to animals. Corn silage should be given 8 kg maximum per animal.

Clover dry hay should not be given more than 1-1,5 kg since it contains a high level of calcium. During the dry season, dry period fodder that is prepared from foodstuff and especially vitamins and minerals should be fed to the animals. Problems such as the ones below may emerge as a result of incorrect nutrition and excessive fattening:

  • Low yield of milk
  • Fertilization problems
  • Milk fever
  • Inability to discharge placenta and difficult birth
  • Ketosis
  • Fourth stomach changing its location.
